Possible bug in Win7 (RC)
I have: 3 Windows7 (x64) boxes, 1 Windows7 (x86) box and 2 Windows XP Pro - SP3 boxes. I use a workgroup (not the homegroup... yet) Being naughty & lazy I did the *upgrade* from Bta to RC yesterday, which we are supposed NOT to do... and now I cannot COPY files etc. from XP to Seven any more. Most every file & folder on the updated (RC) Seven boxes is now read-only (and not to be changed...). I have tried the copy on two different Seven boxes (both running RC-64bits) and it's the same for both. (Of course I'm logged on with administrators' rights) After sharing C:\Drv on Windows 7 (and changing the rights, from the root directory on down) I can copy a folder *from* an XP box to the shared folder I can copy a folder *to* a Windows 7 box (working on the "7" box), but *one* file (a *.htm this time) could not.) Tried the same with one of the earlier "refusals" - an *.exe install file - & still could not copy I'll need to do a clean install & see what happens! DVD writers breaking down, computers on the fritz... 7 hours to no avail :-( It will have to wait, BUT.... I finally tested the same copy on my sole surviving Bta (32bits) box and had the SAME THING OCCUR. That indicates I was too hasty in my first ____-umption: IT IS NOT A WINDOWS 7 RC problem and it is also not related to doing an upgrade instead of a clean install; there is something weird going on between (my) WinXP & Win7 boxes but it might even be "site-specific"! BTW, the file in question was a download (done from my WinXP box). The Release Candidate is running nicely (read-only files notwithstanding), it seems the upgrade has worked. Sorry for crying wolf...
