One way would be In Computer Management Services, disable the service named Human Interface Device Access for the time that you do not want the remote to affect your computer or unplug remote's PC receiver USB plug.

Adding a print screen of device manager list: http://bildr.no/view/616802(PS: This list is on Norwegian, if you prefer I can change the language settings to English and retake the screenshot).

There is no USB dongle. Infrared is built in to the computer, but I cant find the device under device manager. I was not able to find it under device manager when I used acer bloated Vista either (OEM). Adding link for computer spesifications: http://seputar-gadget.blogspot.com/2009/04/acer-aspire-5930.html "1x Consumer infrared (CIR) port" I know for 100% sure there should be a possibility to make the computer not shut down when using infrared, I have changed this setting before, but is not able to find it back. When I changed this setting last time, the infrared signals worked so I could change track, volume etc on the comp, but it wouldn't react when pressing power button (except the xbox360 ofc.)

Right-click on the device and choose "Disable". If it does not work, temproary remove the driver.Arthur Xie - MSFT

I have tried to check both the links given, but I'm not able to find infrared either under the HID Interface or in control panel or any where else in device manager. Your answer might help many other persons with same issue as it normally should be in one of the two places, but in my situation, they are not. I have not installed any infrared driver as Windows 7 must have the drivers built in. Also I would like to mention that my daily work is with computers, if you have any advanced troubleshooting I can do, please let me know.

There must be some kind of built in infrared on the motherboard since Ive now tried to deactivate every device listed below USB and HID. The issue is simply that when I use the xbox media center remote, it also do the same commands on my computer as well as on the xbox. Properly nothing I can do to disable this. Thanks for the try guys.

You could put a piece of opaque tape over the little dark red IR port on the computer... -Noel

The little dark red IR port is no where to be found. I think there must be something on the motherboard, I'm not really sure, but I have been using computers since I was 10 years old and worked with them several years. I can assure there is no device to be found in the device manager. If you try to search for other persons to try and deactivate Acer Aspire 5930 you will find out they got no solution to the issue. But thank you for the advices everybody, I'm sure they will help other persons in the same situation as me, in most cases the infrared device will be in device manager or at least they will be able to find an IR port on the computer to tape over.

If the control really is infrared, there must be a sensor somewhere on the outside of the computer. That's the only way it can work. Edit: I had entered something here about determining whether that remote control might be a radio device, but now I'm convinced it's not. I found a service manual online that shows that you can deconfigure the IR port of an Acer Aspire 4930 from within the BIOS setup screen. I'm guessing that probably means the same is possible for the 5930. During power-up, press the F2 key (it will say to do so on the screen). Once you enter the BIOS setup screen, you should be able to find a Peripheral Configuration screen including an Infrared Port entry, and I'm betting it can be disabled there. -Noel
