Prepare Forest failed

Hi,

I am trying  to execute "Prepare Forest" but failed due to unable to communicate DC1:389.

This Lync server is allowed to communicate with local DC/DNS/GC with schhema role only.  Hence, DC1 does not have any FSMO.  Wondering why it prompted unable to communicate DC1:389 instead of local DC.

P/S: The logon server is local DC, DNS also pointing to local DC.

Any advice? Thanks.

Hello Kelvin!

A couple questions:

  1. Is the account that you are attempting to run the Forest Prep with a member of the Enterprise Admins group in Active Directory?
  2. Is the "local DC" a member of the Forest root level domain, or a child domain within the Forest?

Hi,

The account is just domain domin without Enterprise admins right.  It is single forest single domain.

Hi,

To prepare AD, please make sure you have the following permission:

Procedure

Rights or roles

Schema preparation

Member of Schema Admins group for the forest root domain   and administrator rights on the schema master

Forest preparation

Member of Enterprise Admins group for the forest

Domain preparation

Member of Enterprise Admins or Domain Admins group for the   specified domain

Hello,

Yes, I will echo what Eason said, as that is where my line of questioning about group membership goes. Please add your users to the Schema and Enterprise Admin groups, and then after logging off and back on, try running the Forest prep in the wizard again.

Hi, I have tried the account with enterprise admin but still failed. Thus, I have successfully completed  " Prepare forest" and "Prepare domain" on the local DC itself which allowed to communicate all DCs.

Again, back to Lync2010 - Prepare AD is showing "Partial" and unable to prepare 1st Lync server.  I think Lync2010 is doing some validation to all DCs.
