Print jobs not going into queue after installing Windows 7 SP1
After installing Windows 7 SP1 (Update) my PC will no longer print from various programs including Word. I rebooted the computer…..TWICE to try and get new updates but with no success. It seems to take the print command but fails to send the print job to queue. Local printer, Windows Professional SP1. Any ideas?

Well, you need both SP1 and the print function. Are there specific Windows 7 drivers for the printer from the manufacturer? Using Windows generic drivers? I would uninstall the printer, temporarily disable security and install SP1. Re-enable security, then add the printer again. Check Event Viewer for a more specific clue to the problem. Click Start->right-click Computer->select Manage->select Event Viewer in the left pane-Let it populate->maximise the window->click on the + to expand the error category under the Adminstrative Summary. Any driver or spooler issues mentioned?

It's the print spooler see error message below; The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\UNIDRVUI.DLL, error code 0x7e. See the event user data for context information. ThanksPaul Harned

If that was coupled with event id 808, it's definitely a printer driver that's not compatible.

Thanks Nano, I tried updating the driver on my printer but it said it was up to date (2009) shall I pursue this with the printer manufacturer?Paul

Yes, you should contact the printer manufacturer for the Windows 7 driver. We can’t do anything if there is no Windows 7 driver. And if you install the vista driver with Vista Compatible Mode, it will also may cause unexpected issue like BSOD. It was working fine with Windows 7 before SP1. The manufacturer is Canon (Pixma MP830)Paul

It was working fine with Windows 7 before SP1. The manufacturer is Canon (Pixma MP830) Paul Well, that's why I suggested that you add the printer anew. Something in SP1 is different that's not playing nicely with printer. Have you re-installed SP1? Do that and let's get this printer working. Download the update readiness tool and then apply SP1 if all is ready. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947821 Then , install the drivers first (use the package from Canon) and connect the printer when directed. I see the Windows 7 32 & 64-bit drivers at Canon support for the MP830. Did you notice there is alao a firmware update issued on 10\2009 also? Have you applied that? Perhaps it didn't create any problems until now. (SP1) Although, to update the firmware, the printer needs to be connected and working. Then, if there is no joy, we'll check the print spooler services. Start > Run > cmd and type "net stop spooler" after that "net start spooler" or start > run > service.msc and restart it over the GUI.

It works now! I deleted the printer, disconnected it and then installed Windows 7 SP1 (64bit). After the installation was complete I plugged in the printer and it downloaded the drivers from Windows update automatically. Thanks, you guys rock.Paul
