Printer issue, default settings for each printer.
I have a customer with a printing problem. This regrads mutiple printers and how the default printer affects the other printers. They have 3 different printers that they use for various purposes. One to print letters, one to print envelopes and one to print pictures on special paper. The default printer is the one that they use the most which is the printer for letters. I went into the various printers and set the default page size, (letter for the letter printer, #10 Envelopes for the envelope printer and 5X7 photo paper for the photo printer). Now here is the problem, when they print to the photo or envelope printer it changes the paper size to the paper size of the default printer and they have to manually change the paper size to the correct sze before they can print. As an example the default printer is the one that is used to print letters and the default paper size is 8.5 X 11, if I go to the photo printer (default paper size is 5X7) then I have to go to print properties and change the paper size back to 5X7. If I change the default printer to the photo printer then I have to change the paper size when printing to the letter printer. The system is a Windows 7 professional 32 bit computer connected to a windows 2008 R2 server set up as a files / domain server. I did not see this behavoir when working with Windows XP Pro. Any idea what is causing this and how to fix it. Here is an example to help understand the problem. 1) Printer A is the default printer and it has 8.5 X 11 paper selected as it default paper size. 2) Printer B is the second printer and it has 5X7 paper selected at it default paper size. 3) When I print from any program and I select Printer B (over ride the default) it will print 8.5 X 11 even though I set the default paper size for printer B to 5X7. I have to go into the printer preferences and manually select 5X7 when I use this printer. 4) If I make printer B the default printer then the situation is reversed. If I print from any program and select printer A then it will print 5X7 even though the default paper size for printer A is 8.5 X 11. 5) All the comptuers in this office do this. 6) I did not see this behavior in Windows XP. each printer has its own properties, if they affect other printers then there is a problem with the host I have a few different printers and they get along fine Windows MVP, paid Remote Assistance is available for XP, Vista and Windows 7. Hi, Do you mean that the printers cannot keep their paper size settings?
