Printing from a virtual server

I am currently running windows 8 on my laptop.  I have a virtual server with GoDaddy that is running Windows Server 2008R2.  I use remote desktop to access my virtual server.  I have gone into the options for remote desktop to allow my local printer to be used to print documents from my virtual server but I cannot get this to work.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong?  Or will this even work?  If it won't work is there anything I can do to get around this problem?

I have software running on my virtual server that I need to print from all the time.  I am currently printing to a file and copying the file to my local desktop to print.  This is a pain and very time consuming.  Any help would be great.  Thanks.

Hi,

Is this a local network printer?

First, please check if there is any GPO prevent from using Printer redirection:

Computer Configuration/Administrative Templates/Windows Components/Remote Desktop Services/Remote Desktop Session Host/Printer Redirection

Then, check the port setting on your printer,  please know that Printers that use ports that do not begin with COM, LPT, or USB are not redirected in a remote desktop or a terminal services session.

As following, if we cannot show the printer in RDP session, lets try to manually install the printer driver in RDP session to see whats going on.

For further troubleshooting plan, please upload the event logs both on your local computer and RD computer here for research.

Collect event log:
