Problem getting a second monitor Windows 8.1

Hello,

I am trying to hook up a second monitor and i used the "Extend" option with the shortcut "Windows" + "P" and the screen is still blank.

I am using a BIOSTAR  Hi-Fi A85W Motherboard with a Gigabyte AMD Radeon R7 200 Series graphics card.

I currently have my primary monitor hooked into my graphics card with an HDMI cord and it works fine, the secondary monitor I have hooked up with and HDMI cord to my mother board and nothing. I have tried to detect the monitor and nothing is helping. I think I may need to hook my second monitor into my graphics card but the only ports on my monitor are D-sub(VGA) HDMI (currently used) DisplayPort MiniDisplayport Mini HDMI DVI-I and DVI-D

Thank you for the help,

Taylor

Taylor.Blodgett,

You are correct in needing to connect both monitors to your graphics card.  Most of todays modern motherboards immediately disable the onboard graphics card when a new graphics card is detected.

As far as your issue with the ports on your monitor, there are adapters available that can convert a port to a different type, for example, VGA to DVI.

Hope this helps.

Hi Taylor,

Mike is right.

We cannot use integrated graphics and discrete graphics at the same time.

As you said ,your primary monitor connected to your graphics card.

To use the secondary monitor , we still need to connect the secondary monitor to your graphics card, rather than your graphics card.
