Problem sharing Windows 7 PC printer with Vista Notebook
I have an HP Photosmart 8200 Series Printer installed on Windows 7 sharing by network. On a XP PC I have no problems installing and printing. On a Vista Notebook I can see the printer and install it, but then the problems start. When it finishes installing, I hit on the test page and nothing happens. When I hit the Finish button I get a not responding. Also when I click on the new printer icon to check properties and wait about 3 or 4 minutes I get the propertis screen but again if I click on any tab I get the not responding sign. If I hookup the printer to the Vista Notebook by USB the printer installs and works. Anyone got any ideas. HP has any true drivers for Windows 7 they say to use Microsofts drivers.

Hi, Since the shared printer on Windows 7 machine can be accessed on other machine, we can conclude that the network connection and printer settings are fine. This issue can occur by incorrect network or printer settings on Windows Vista machine. I suggest you try the following steps on Windows Vista machine for a test. 1. Temporarily turn off firewall and antivirus program on Windows Vista machine. 2. Perform a Clean Boot to check the result. If the issue disappears in the Clean Boot environment, we can use a 50/50 approach to quickly narrow down which entry is causing the issue. 3. Clear Printer Spooler files and enable the spooler service a. Click Start and type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box. Click OK. b. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. c. Click Stop and click OK. d. Click Start, type "%WINDIR%\system32\spool\printers" in the open window and press Enter, and delete all files in this folder. e. Click Start, type "Services.msc" (without the quotation marks) in the open box and click OK. f. Double-click "Printer Spooler" in the Services list. g. Click on Start. In the Startup Type list, make sure that "Automatic" is selected and click OK. However, if the issue persists, you may need contact our Windows Vista support or consult the issue in Windows Vista forum. Thanks, Novak
