Problem since 8.1 update - The device or resource (PC-NAME) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)"

Hi,

Since updating to Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit (latest version), in File Explorer listed under Computer I see my other PC's but I no longer see devices like my Synology NAS etc. All PC's and devices are connected using ethernet cables via switches.

The devices still appear in File Explorer on my other Windows 8.1 Pro 64 bit (latest version) PC under Computer so the problem seems to be on the first PC rather than my Asus router.

I just tried putting the name of the devices (\\diskstation etc) in the address bar of File Explorer and with one of the devices I got error 0x80004005 so I ran the trouble shooter and got this error:-

Problem found
The remote device or resource won't accept the connection               Detected            !
Detailed Information
The device or resource (FOXSAT-HDR) is not set up to accept connections on port "The File and printer sharing (SMB)".

I've tried disabling AVG virus software, Windows Firewall and my Asus Router firewall but it makes no difference

sfc /scannow was OK

The Network Adapter has had the latest driver installed.

I've hunted high and low for a solution, I went through this thread very closely ( https://tinyurl.com/p9gk9sn ) but still no solution ... HELP

Regards

Barry

Hi,

Please check if the serveces started that might have something to do with this:
-> "Computer browsing" -> started
-> "Ssdp discovery" -> started
-> "Tcp/ip netbios helper" -> started
-> "Server" -> started

Meanwhile, check whether this problematic PC is in the same workgroup\homegroup\domain with other PCs.
It is also recommended to contact this support, they might have some ideas which we missed.
