I have a problem with my ASUS vivo LAPTOP. Its running on Windows 8 and going pretty well, but sometimes when I use the Google chrome browser and open multiple pages the computer freezes and does nothing which requires me to shut it down by long pressing the power button.

The question is what is the problem and does this process of long pressing the power button to shut it down harm my computer Hardware or Software?

Are you sure the issue is happening only when you use Google chrome. Then, it is an issue with the browser. Remove chrome and then re-install and check if that fix the issue.

Regarding force shut down is only meant to be used in emergency situations. If the computer is forced to shutdown everytime, this can lead to formation of bad sectors in hard disk and reduce its life span.
