I submitted a print job. Printing goes up to 99% completion, then hangs. No printed output. Task Manager shows spoolsv.exe active with 50% utilization of my dual processor. Is there a known problem with spoolvs.exe? No, but there may be a problem with your printer driver.Has this always happened with this printer? If not, what happened to your system just prior to the problem starting? What make/model printer? How is the printer connected (USB, Network, Wireless)? The steps at the following article usually fix this sort of thing:http://www.coribright.com/windows/Article_One.htm

Printer is an All-in-one Lexmark X5470. I have removed/deleted Lexmark using Control Panel Add/Remove and reinstalled the driver with copy I obtained from Lexmark website, as suggested by Aricle_One.htm. Problem persists.Printer connection to computer is USB. computer is Dell Vostro 1510 Dual processor Service Pack 3.Printer was working up and until last week. 3 days ago, the problem I reported just came out. I am not aware of any changes to Windows XP Professional operating system.Currently, I am looking at my Firewall settings in McAfee.

The most important step in Article One is Step 4. If you don't (didn't?) remove the driver using this step, when you re-install, the existing driver is not replaced.Usually the procedures of Article One are sufficient. The following article explains how to do a more thorough cleaning: http://members.shaw.ca/bsanders/CleanPrinterDrivers.htm Don't forget to read the part about Lexmark drivers. Finally, an even more drastic cleanup (probably not necessary) of the printing system can be accomplished by using the "Full" mode of the Microsoft FixIt here:http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;324757I suppose that it is possible that McAfee is causing this issue. Overly-intrusive security suites, including McAfee and Norton, often cause more problems than they protect you from. Do you have a reason to believe that the McAfee firewall was reconfigured recently? If you don't see anything obvious, I suggest completely disabling (or, better, uninstalling) the entire McAfee suite and then testing your printing. If you are connected directly to the Internet (not through a router), disconnect from the Internet before disabling or uninstalling McAfee.
