Problem writing to DFS network share
Dell Latitude X1 w/ Vista SP1 Business (French) When I try to write to a DFS folder a the network, I received an error message saying "vous devez disposer d'une autorisation pour effectuer cette action" or "You must have authorization to do this action". I did some test, here is the result. - I can create a file or folder with 0 byte, but I can't rename it en overwrite it. I can copy a file to this shared folder, but I can't edit it. - It works with standard shared folders, but not my DFS shared folders. - It does only that with that particular user, other profile on the works fine on this computer. It still does that after deleting and recreating the profile. - This user works fine on other computer. - My effective permissions looks fine. I can't put my finger on the problem? I haven't been able to isolated neither my DFS, File Server, the computer itself or the user to has the source of the problem.

Hi, Before moving on, could you please let me know if the shared folder located on different servers? If so, the problem may be caused by a shared folder permission issue on a specific server. We need to take the following steps to troubleshoot the problem. 1.Use the problem account logon the computer and open CMD window. 2.Run the following command: dfsutil /pktinfo 3.In the list, please find which server status is ACTIVE. 4.Please check the share folder permission on the server. NOTE: This dfsutil tool enables administrators to query and troubleshoot the Microsoft Distributed File System (DFS) from the command prompt. You can get the tool from Windows Server 2003 Support Tools. For more information about dfsutil. C:\>dfsutil /pktinfo Microsoft(R) Windows(TM) Dfs Utility Version 4.2 Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 1991-2005. All Rights Reserved. --mup.sys-- 2 entries... I check this... the permissions are fine for this user the on the server. I can access both shared folders on both servers using distinct UNC, both not using DFS Root. This user works fine when he's logged on an other computer. I delete and recreate his profile... results were negative. I also download an hotfix that seems to correct a wrong calculation of free space... negative also... I'm a bit out of resources. I have an other user which his mapping goes on and off. He click on the P:\ which point to a DFS root, but than he received a message saying the the drive is not available. I use the UNC, et voil!!! It works... DFS seems a little buggy even with Windows 2008 and Vista SP1... I also use Windows 2003 R2 Storage Server (which is my SAN).

Hi, Thank you for your update. Since you can access shared folders on both servers using distinct UNC , I suspect this issue is a Kerberos problem. Given the situation, I suggest you take the following steps to troubleshoot the problem. 1. Please run the following command on the problem computer: KList purge 2. Enable netmon to capture network packets on the problem computer. 1) Download NetMon3.2 from the following website and install it on the computer http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=f4db40af-1e08-4a21-a26b-ec2f4dc4190d&DisplayLang=en 2) Log onto the machines, right-click the Netmon icon and select Run as Administrator to launch NetMon3.2. 3) In the Microsoft Network Monitor 3.2 window, click Create a new capture tab 4) In the new tab, select all the Network Adapters in the Select Networks window. 5) After that, press F10 to start NetMon. 6) Try to re-produce the problem on the computer. 7) Go back to the NetMon window and press F11 to stop the NetMon. 8) Press Ctrl+S to save the Netmon file and upload them to the following space: https://sftus.one.microsoft.com/choosetransfer.aspx?key=88efda0e-d6c6-4c55-a346-0dd8e9db135a Password: J3kNEXiZ]R2I_ In addition, please understand that analyze/troubleshoot this kind of issue may be time consuming. If it is urgent, Id like to recommend that you contact Microsoft Customer Support Service for instant assistance. To obtain the phone numbers for specific technology request please take a look at the website listed below: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=fh;EN-US;PHONENUMBERS For more information about troubleshooting steps, you can refer to the following article: Kerberos Authentication problems Service Principal Name (SPN) issues http://blogs.technet.com/askds/archive/2008/05/29/kerberos-authentication-problems-service-principal-name-spn-issues-part-1.aspx Thank you for your cooperation. Hope it helps.
