Problems accessing a Windows 7 share from DOS 6.22
I have just replaced a Windows XP system that just failed at a client site with a system running Win 7 Pro. My problem is that they are running a legacy application that will only work on DOS 6.xx, which needs access to a network resource that is on the
new Windows 7 system.
Networking was working fine with XP, but I am now unable to map a drive the the new PC. Every time I try, I get an "Error 5: Access has been denied" message.
It does the same thing if I try to do a "net view \\fp-sales".
I can successfully ping the Win 7 system from the DOS PC.
I found a message in the forums about using gpedit.msc and changing the following setting
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Security Settings\Local Policies\Security Options\Network security: LAN Manager authentication level to “Send LM & NTLM - use NTLMv2 session security if negotiated”.
But this has not helped me at all, any suggestions?

I went through the same issues between my Windows 98SE PC and Windows 7. Did you try the "net use" command? For example:
c:> net use Z: \\fp-sales\share-name
The "net view" would be saying you're just trying to browse the work-group name or machine name, which will not work. I tried making that same registry hack but it never worked. But I did successfully map the drive. Browsing the machine name is
definitely
a no go.

net use is the command that I was using to map the drive, still no joy. I'll be looking at it again tomorrow

use the IP address not the machine name

I've added the Windows 7 "server" to the hosts file, but I'll try using the IP address to access it when I go onsite tomorrow
