Problems booting after software upgrades
Earlier today I installed some software upgrades for Win 7 RC, then restarted my computer as it said, it then failed to boot up, showed a black screen for a few minutes then a blue error screen, not sure what is said as it wasn't there long enough to have a proper read. Screen also showed up when I tried booting in safe mode. I'd try re-installing but I don't have the DVD, installed it by mounting the .iso image to a virtual drive instead and then deleted the .iso file because I only have a small hard drive Anyone have any ideas how to fix it?

Hi Jack, I'm glad to hear that you'd already solved the problem yourself; I provided some steps below, you might keep them as the reference when you encounter the same problem in the future. Use the Windows Recovery Environment (WinRE) to run System Restore 1. Boot the computer and press F8. 2. Select Repair your computer option and press Enter. 3. Select a language, a time and currency, and a keyboard or input method, and then click Next. 4. Click Repair your computer. 5. In the System Recovery Options dialog box, choose the drive of your Windows installation and click Next 6. At the System Recovery Options Dialog Box, click on System Restore. 7. Follow the System Restore Wizard instruction as usual and choose the appropriate restore point. 8. Click Finish to restore the system. Have a nice day! Andy

This is interesting actually.I have had Windows 7 RTM running for a week now and all seemed fine. However a software update was undertaken and I was asked to re-boot.On re-boot the same thing happened to me. Bluse screen error.Tried the system restore and the detect adn repair options but neither of them worked. In the end I have had to do a completely fresh install to get it to work again.Any thoughts on why this would have happened? This did not happen under the Beta and RC versions so it is a bit annoying that it should happen under the RTM version!Cheers,Robin.Rob

Well no real help to you prbably but I gave up in the end and have done a total re-install.So far so good. Keeping fingers crossed now to see what happens following any updates that may come down.I have also now created a proper system restore disk and a full system disk image to see if I can recover it that way if it happens again. If this does happen again then I amy be reverting back to Vista until Windows 7 is stable enough to cope with software updates!Rob
