Problems connecting to internet with windows 7
Hi,
since a few days the PC of my mother will no longer connect to the internet.
It started with a 651 error, searching the internet we changed the file RASPPPOE.SYS for a Vista file.
The 651 Error disappeared but now we get a 797 error. The modem was reset, removed the driver and installed new, like it said on the internet. But we still have this problem. The driver for the modem seems to have a missing signature. It is a motorola DSL
Modem.
This is an HP 64 bit with Atlon X2, Windows 7 home premium.
The modem is OK for a lptop with XP can connect to the internet
Does anyone have an idea where to search for a solution?
Regards,
Jan

If it was working a few days ago, why not just do a restore to when it was working...?

Hi
the problem is that a restore didn't work. Furthermore is the PC in the Hague and I am in Austria (over 1000 km away),
I usually service it with teamviewer but without internet that is hard to do.
I have been digging the internet and found some solutions but I need to organise someone
that can do these things in the Hague.
The problem however is described often and marked as a bug in Windows 7.
It seems that the solution is this:

When I find someone to do it I hope it will work.
Kind regards,

Do you mean the restore function failed.. or the restore function succeeded but it did not fix the problem.

Hi,
as far as I know the restore function succeeded but did not solve the problem,
they even tried it more then once.
BTW my mother is 90 years old so I must organise things.
Kind regards,

A connection to the remote computer could not be established because the modem was not found or was busy.
Please unplug and then re-plug the modem to see if the issue can be resolved. If another modem is available, please test if it works.
Also, you can go to Start -> Control Panel -> Troubleshooting -> Connect to the Internet. Follow the wizard and see if the issue can be resolved. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
