Problems with Flash Drives and other removable drives
I am running Windows XP (SP3)
I have a problem with flash drives and other external storage devices.
Whenever I plug a flash drive or other external storage device like a Compact Flash with a USB card reader, I get one of 2 results. Either :
1) When I try to find the drive in Windows Explorer, the removable drive shows up on the list of drives but Windows Explorer freezes , or
2) Autorun launches and justs freezes. I have unplug the USB device and I have to close Explorer to get back any functionality of the PC.
Strangely , the exception to this is when I put in a Kingston Data Vault Privacy Flash drive , which I think has its own drivers to install.
It's annoying because if I want to transfer files onto a compact flash e.g. WAV samples for use with my keyboards, I have to copy them from pc to the data vault , from the data vault to my laptop and then from laptop to the compact flash card via a
USB card reader.
I don't have any problem with other USB devices which act like a removable drive e.g. my Ipod, my phone, my camera. They work fine.
Can you suggest a remedy.
Thanks
Jeremy
