Problems with profile after power loss.
During recent snow storm the power in the house flickered off and on several times and after it was over my wife had some troubles logging back on to her profile. After a reboot she was able to get to her profile with no trouble. My profile is gone, no office documents, my virus protection does not work in my profile only, everything I had tied with my profile is gone. My system restore was turned off so cannot use that. Anyone have any ideas on how to get my profile and all my documents back?1 person needs an answerI do too

On the assumption that your profile became corrupted (not an uncommon occurrence), one of the following KB articles should help you out..."How to recover the damaged user profile in Windows XP" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555473 >"How to copy data from a corrupted user profile to a new profile in Windows XP" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/811151 >HTH, JW

Hi, If the system restore is turned off on the system, there is not much we can do to get back your profile. You need to create a new profile and then copy the data from your old user profile folder that will be present in the document and setting folder and then back up the data and then copy it back to the new profile. Follow the steps mentioned below.a. Log into your wife’s profile and click on start menu.b. Click on My computer and click on the c:\ drive.c. Click on Document and Settings folder.d. Check whether you are able to see the profile name. If you are able to see your profile then click on it and check whether the files are present.e. If the files are present then backup the files.f. Create a new user account.g. Save the backed up files. How to create and configure user accounts in Windows XPhttp://support.microsoft.com/kb/279783 If you are not able to locate the documents and files on the system, you might need to use third party recovery tools in order to recover those files. the problem that windows incurs when there is a sudden loss of power is that when it happens during a file read/write, the operation did not occur/complete to close the files that were open at the time of the power loss. you may simply need to run a check disk (chkdsk /r) to repair the master file table and resync it to the file system. although, a chkdsk can be initiated via the desktop, you will likely need to run it via the recovery console using a xp setup/install cd. -- db`...><)))> ."sgtmikey" wrote in message news:f1d35055-1359-4953-8c14-8f2700ec006b...During recent snow storm the power in the house flickered off and on several times and after it was over my wife had some troubles logging back on to her profile.
