Old laptop monitor died and just bought a new HP with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. De-installed all of the unwanted pre-installed software (specifically MS Works and MS Office 2007 trial) that came on the computer. No problems noted with any of the de-installations. Started installing the apps I need. When I got to installing MS Office Pro 2003 (from original disks with original product key, which was used to install it on the old laptop), I get "invalid product key" when I enter the key very early in the installation and I have to cancel the install. What I have tried: 1. Tried over and over with product key (upper case, lower case, etc.) No success. 2. Took to my friend (also running WIndows 7 64 bit) and had him try to install the MS Office Pro 2003. He got past the product key problem fine when installing it on his system. Strange. I suspect something was "left over" when I de-installed the above mentioned MS products and that something is preventing my installation of MS Office Pro 2003. But what? More importantly, how do I get rid of it? I am considering re-installing Windows from the backup partition that HP provides, but then I will have to remove and replace all of my data and re-install all of my other apps. UGH. Any ideas? Can I ask what was the procedure you used to un-install the trial versions? Did you follow these steps? Step 1: Start Add or Remove Programs Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type appwiz.cpl. Click OK. Back to the top Step 2: Remove Office suites or individual programs In the Currently installed programs list, locate and then click either the previously installed Office suite or the individual Office program.Note This includes any trial versions of Office 2007 that were preinstalled by the computer manufacturer. For example, the computer manufacturer may have preinstalled 2007 Microsoft Office system or Office 2007 Home & Student Trial. Click Remove. Click Yes when you are prompted to confirm that you want to remove the Office suite or individual program. Back to the top Step 3: Start any Office program and re-enter the product key Retail versions of Office are self-repairing. To repair the version of Office that is installed, start any Office program and follow the instructions to enter the product key. To do this, follow these steps:Note If a retail version of Office is not installed, go to step 4. Exit any programs that are running and close all open windows. Start an Office program. For example, start Microsoft Office Word or Microsoft Office Excel. Type the product key for the retail version of Office when you are prompted. Back to the top Step 4: Reinstall Office In some cases, you may have to reinstall Office. Click Start, and then click Run. In the Open box, type Appwiz.cpl, and then click OK. In the Add or Remove Programs dialog box, click Add New Programs. Click CD or Floppy. In the Install Program From Floppy Disk or CD-ROM dialog box, make sure that the Office CD is in the CD drive or DVD drive, and then click Next. Click Finish, and then follow the instructions to complete the installation of Office. Click OK when the Office Setup has finished. Remove your Office CD from the CD drive or DVD drive. I opened control panel (different win Win 7 - Geez). Got to the list of installed programs. Highlighted the various programs (think I did MS works first and then MS Office 2007 trial next - also did Some MS Office 2007 Powerpoint Viewer also). For each, clicked the "uninstall" tab at the top of the window and answered yes to the questions. So I think i did what you are describing above. BTW, now the list of installed programs shows none of the ones I de-installed.

Two addl items: Now my list of installed pgms only has the following MS stuff MS Silverlight MS Location Finder A bunch of MS Visual Cpp Redistributable 2005 and 2008 Two MSXML thingies Also, To install MS Office 2003, I merely inserted the disk and clicked setup - I did not use theappwiz.cpl you mention above. Is that the problem?
