Profile problems - Win7 and Win2k3 domain
I am having a problem with Windows 7 Ultimate (32) and our 2003 Server domain. When I create the profile on Win7 and connect to the domain, it seems to create the profile, I set some preferences and then log out. When I log back into the domain, I always see the "Preparing your Desktop" message and then everything is just like I had never logged in before. It seems to create a new, temporary profile every time I log in and I cannot find what the issue is. Does anyone have any insight to this? I imagine that there must be some problem between the Win7 operating system and the Win 2K3 domain controller but I am just guessing. I can't put Win 7 on my network until this issue is figured out. Thanks in advance.

I asume you are trying to use a roaming profile in Windows 7 with Windows Server 2003 as a file server. That should not be a problem. Be aware that Windows 7 creates a new profile folder named <username>.v2 in the same folder where the Windows XP roaming profile is located. Make sure your user has enough rights to create that folder with full control access on the server. If you like to pre-create the profile folder for the user, then make sure the user gets Full Control access to the profile folder.Ray - Author of Windows 7 for XP Professionals

I am not trying to create a roaming profile. I am trying to login to he domain the same way I have users doing it on XP and Vista. Is there a different process for setting up a domain profile for Win7 than for XP and Vista? Currently, I have what looks like two domain users folders: admin.domainA (dated last week) admin.domainA.000 (dated today) I am really confused at what is going on. I re-installed Win7 and it did the same thing. I changed hard-drives and it is doing the same thing. It is something that has to do with the way Win7 interacts with a Win2k3 domain?

Hi, As this issue persists after re-installing Windows 7, I believe it is more domain related. We may need to troubleshoot on the DC side. As this forum focuses on Windows Vista specific issues, this inquiry would best be posted to Windows Server forum: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/winserverDS/threads The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who read the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding. Regards,Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
