Protect folders and files from being moved on network
In short, on a network drive, I want to keep a folder and it's contents from being moved or deleted, but I want people to be able to edit the files within. Sorry if this isn't the best category for this question. I'm using Windows XP Professional Ver. 2002 SP2 and I am trying to set up folder permissions on a network drive. Our IT department tells me what I want is not possible, but I don't believe them.I have a folder on a network drive. I want to protect that folder so that only I can move it, rename it, delete it. But, I want everyone to be able to see what is in the folder and have write permissions to the contents. So I basically just want to protect the folder. We have people move and delete folders all the time, and it takes time to find/replace them. Our IT dept says if you trust the people with the contents of the folder, then you have to trust them with the folder. Anyways, I think there has to be a way, but I don't think I'm selecting the correct options in the folder permissions. There are a lot of checkboxes there. Any ideas?1 person needs an answerI do too

Your IT Dept. is correct. If you allow others write access, they can delete the files. If you don't want anyone to delete the folder or its contents, then you can give them Read Only access but you can't have it both ways.MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
