Proxy Server
As a home user I would be prepared to bet that you don't need to use a proxy server. Untick everything and remove any text from the boxes you mention. You may have had a virus which ticked this box for you.Alan Moseley

The internet is not working [only on my account] on my home computer. [desktop] The diagnosis was there was a problem with my proxy server. It told me to go to tools, then connections, and type in an address and number for the LAN settings. I've tried but it won't let me type in that box, whether the box above it is checked or not. I also do not know what number and address I have to type in. I don't even think I have a proxy server.

How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7 Also, if you don’t need the proxy server , you may check the “Automatically detect settings”,and don’t check any box expect this. In addition, I want to share the following with you: Using Automatic Configuration, Automatic Proxy, and Automatic Detection If the problem persists, please run “ipconfig -all” in CMD and post the result here.
