QoS

Hi,

We are extending our current Lync 2010 implementation to include federation and conferencing/Application sharing etc.

Even though Lync is designed to work without QoS, would you say it would be a best practice to implement? Internally the quality seems pretty good. We do have issues with a customer we federate with in India but Im suspecting it is connection issues on their side. As a test im going to break the federation and try to set up a meeting just through our Lync server, see if the situation improves.

I get that QoS wont extend to the internet, but am interested in any feedback people may have on setting this up internally so it at least extends to our firewalls/routers outside of our LAN.

Hi,

If you don't see any performance issue with call quality , there is no need to enable QOS. As you know QOS can not extend to internet its only useful for MPLS network.

Addionally, you can see the monitoring report (If you have implemented) to see if there is any jitter, delays in call quality.

Good Luck.

Thanks for the prompt response. I have the monitoring server, which report should I be looking at for this info?

Hi,

Agree with Anil K Singh. You dont need to deploy QoS if you have the good quality Media traffic internally.

As you have deployed Lync Monitoring Server, You can use Monitoring Reports to usage, call diagnostic information, and media quality information, all based on call detail recording (CDR) and Quality of Experience (QoE) records stored in the CDR and QoE databases.

For the Lync conference quality information, you can use Media Quality Diagnostic Reports.
