Quit from obsolete network domain
My notebook is configured in network domain of my last employer. I noticed that after restart there are attempts to connect to this obsolete domain controller and to run variousinitialization scripts having something to do with networking. May I somehow abandon this domain, i.e. to remove this network domain configuration including scripts - without reinstalling of Windows ?I have Windows XP Professional SP3.JT1 person needs an answerI do too

Doing a clean install of Windows is really your best solution since there will be many domain policies that will remain tattooed on the machine. If you don't have the reinstallation media, check with the laptop mftr. to see if you can purchase a recovery disc set. This is usually very inexpensive, around $25. If you can't do this, then you will need to know the local administrator's password because when you remove the computer from the domain (Control Panel>System>Computer Name) you will no longer be able to log onto the domain user account. If you don't know the local administrator's password (and you probably don't), then you would need to use NTpasswd to change the password to a blank. Then log into that account and create a new user account for yourself. Copy the data from the now-defunct domain user account to your new local user account. But it would still be better to do a restore to factory condition. To use NTpasswd, download the bootable CD .iso, burn with third-party burning software such as Roxio, Nero, or the free ImgBurn . Burnas an image, not as data. Boot with the media you created. You may need to change the boot order in the BIOS or get a temporary boot order menu with a special keypress. NTpasswd will run. Follow the instructions carefully. http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/ MS-MVP - Elephant Boy Computers - Don't Panic!
