RDC connection not working--but is working from another computer

My wife's office gives off-site access by using a browser to login to the system, then launching RDC.

On my Surface Pro 3, she can get into her machine at work.

On her Lenovo Yoga, the Remote App screen comes up, but never logs her in.

The only difference I am sure of is that my machine runs 8.1 PRO and hers 8.1 home, but we are trying to gain access to her off-site computer from these machines, not trying to gain access to her home PC.

What settings on the client side am I failing to check? We are both running Windows Firewall and Windows Defender.

Please advise. Many thanks.

If Windows 8 has the same rule set at Windows 7, then you should be able to log into other PC's with "Home" but not be able to log INTO the "home" which you seem to be aware of. I would check the firewall settings on the home PC and make sure that port 3389 is open. That would be the first thing I would check.

Thank you for taking the time to respond. Perhaps I can clarify the situation a bit:

Laptop A is my Surface. I am connecting from the house to Desktop C in my wife's office. No problem.

Laptop B is my wife's Lenovo. I am trying to connect from the house to Desktop C in my wife's office. No dice.

The solution appears to rest within the settings of Laptop B and neither the home router, her work router, nor Desktop C.

Is your recommendation that port 3389 needs to be open on Laptop B? I went so far as to turn off the firewall on Laptop B, but that did not work. (Although perhaps simply turning it off and opening a new browser window was not sufficient.)

Other than this clarification, I can add that RDP connection is launched from her Intranet. First you log in to the Intranet, then click "connect to my PC" and this brings up the "remote app" launcher, not even really the RDP dialogue box.

I appreciate any additional assistance. Many thanks.

Hi Barry,

On her Lenovo Yoga, the Remote App screen comes up, but never logs her in.

Is this app Remote Desktop Connection as below:

If yes, please follow this guide to check your firewall, Remote Desktop Gateway (RD Gateway) server etc network setting:

Thank you again for the reply. I checked out the link above. Most of the needs apply to the remote computer, Desktop C. Since I can access it from my Surface, the problems do not seem to stem from settings on my wife's work server or desktop. For the Lenovo, Laptop B, I have tried turning off Windows Firewall entirely on her laptop with no result.

The connection method to her work server is more complex than starting up RDC.  First, she logs into her Intranet from a browser, which brings up her Windows Server 2012 screen with a number of icons.  Her computer then shows a balloon in the corner noting that RDC is running in the background.  She then clicks "connect to your desktop," which is one of the icons--the others are MS Office products. No matter what she clicks, the next pop up is NOT the one you show above, but actually "Remote App." I hope that you can see the screen shot below.  It shows this smaller Remote App screen.

Any additional help appreciated. Many thanks.

Hi Barry,

Is there any error message prompt when it login failed?
