RDP and Network Share Credential Issues - Win 7 to Win 2008
I had Windows Vista installed on my workstation, I used RDP all the time to connect to my Windows 2008 box (no domain, just workgroup). I upgraded the Vista box to Win 7 RC1 and every time I try to make an RDP connection i get, "Your credentials did not work".Things I have tried:- Specified the remote machine name in the login, e.g. Win2008Machine\login- Created the same account and passwordon the Win 7 box and tried remoting in with it.- Disabled HomeGroup (not real sure what this is yet)- Added login to Credential Manager- Turned off Password Protected Sharing (not sure why this would need to be off on the client anyway)Also, I am unable to connect to the Windows 2008 network shares. Type in \\Win2008Machine and get "unknown user name or bad password". When providing the credentials, it always says Domain: Win7Machine, but I am not on a domain.Any ideas would be great. Thanks a lot.

1. Make sure you dont use blank password. 2. Try to use IP or FQDN to access the remote computer. 3. Disable the new Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP) authentication functionality that Windows Vista provides Also check this post: Windows 7 An authentication error occured (Code: 0x80090308) - http://chicagotech.net/netforums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6838&sid=f99e44ae371222f95be9cd7ab25f5337Bob Lin, MS-MVP Networking, Internet, Routing, VPN Troubleshooting on http://www.ChicagoTech.net How to Setup Windows, Network, VPN & Remote Access on http://www.howtonetworking.com

Hi Cood, On Windows 7 RC computer, please turn on Network Discovery. Then, when access with Remote Desktop, please enter the user name and password with the following format. User name: [computer name]\[user name]Password: [password] Please note that the [computer name] is the Windows Server 2008 computer name. The username/password should be valid in the Windows Server 2008 system. Regarding the file sharing issue, I suggest that you create a same username/password with the Windows Server 2008 computer on the Windows 7 RC computer. If the issue still occurs, please temporary disable the anti-virus and firewall on the Windows Server 2008 computer. Then check the result again.Arthur Xie - MSFT
