RDP has stopped working after malware & System Restore
I am using Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate. My Remote Desktop has stopped working after I had some malware. Instead of trying to clean it up I just simply used System Restore. I used a point of 3-4 days earlier. I know the PC was clean at that time. I did the System Restore from a local admin account as the login profile I normally use was hosed by the malware. I ran the Microsoft Security Essentials afterword and cleaned up any remaining malware. When I try to RDP into that PC from the outside (or inside for that matter) I get an error of "An authentication error has accured. The Local Security Authority cannot be contacted. Remote computer: xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" Now this is on the option of Allow connections only from computers running Remote Desktop with Network Level Authentication (more secure). When I change the Remote Desktop option to Allow connections from computers running any version of Remote Desktop (less secure), I get to the windows screen but then I get "The trust relationship between this workstation and the primary domain failed." I get these errors on a couple of PCs I'm trying to RDP from so it's not just one PC from the outside. When I try to add a Remote Desktop User I can add the user but it has the head of a person with a question (?) mark on it. I can reboot & login with my domain credentials sitting at the PC fine. I would not rather remove the PC from the domain and re-add it. I cannot loose this profile. We all know trying to get Windows to use an old profile an be frustrating. Also; since I'm authenticating fine from sitting at the PC this should not be the issue? I do have a image from Aug 2010 that I could use but I rather get this fixed. What can I do to get this fixed? Please let me know if you need more info! Todd Todd, Mokena, IL

Hi, Thanks for posting in Microsoft TechNet Forum. Rejoin domain would fix this issue. Also, you can reset the member security channel to check how it works: Netdom reset Meanwhile, if you do not want to rejoin domain, you could try to undo system restore: Undo System Restore Then try to clean up all malware, check if this issue would be fixed.
