Recurive directories
I have trouble with my C: drive and Cmd/dir Below is a photo of security on C:. As far as I can tell the system is a "normal" win 7 system. It's new and the processor is a sandy bridge extreme. Does anyone know what the directory "Local settings" is? Renee "MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

What you see is the effect of an incorrectly configured junction point. It's like a dog trying to bite its own tail. You could delete the junction point if you wanted to but you might as well ignore the recursive display. It is of no consequence.

It's of MAJOR CONSEQUENCE to me. I use DIR very often and I can not see it's results. DUH. Renee"MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

What I did was to remove protections that I installed. Security is getting to be a real pain these days thanks to Microsoft and to dishonest people who use computers. This means more profits for MS and I have a stickly user oriented OS. Renee "MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

Am I acting dumb enough for you? I was formerly a VMS engineer which was heck of a lot better than Windows. Here's what you requested: Volume in drive C has no label. Volume Serial Number is C0C0-BFA0 Directory of C:\Users\Renee\Local Setting "MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me

Am I acting dumb enough for you? I was formerly a VMS engineer which was heck of a lot better than Windows. I have answered countless queries in this forum and I learnt a long time ago never to assume that a poster knew anything about console commands. I would have kept my reply much shorter if you had said something about your level of expertise! The command rd "c:\Users\Renee\Local Settings\Application Data" will resolve your problem. The command is safe because, as you already know, "rd" will not remove a directory unless it is empty. The actual data is kept in the AppData folder.

Thank you very much. Experienced can get bad data and not know what to do with it, like I showed in my first post of this thread. Renee"MODERN PROGRAMMING is deficient in elementary ways BECAUSE of problems INTRODUCED by MODERN PROGRAMMING." Me
