?> Where can I find a CD boot disk. if you have a xp setup cd, then it is a bootable cd. You will likely want to use the recovery console feature and then get to the disk prompt. ?> ..redirect virus that has hijacked my system.. the above is likely a browser hijack which can be cleaned away. ?> ..disabled all Microsoft services .. the above doesnt sound right. you should have disabled none Microsoft services only. ?> Right now it won't boot after I did a clean boot you might try pressing / holding down the f8 key after you turn on the pc and it finishes the bios testing. the f8 key will open the windows diagnostic boot menu and then you can try the options: 1) boot to last good known configuration. and or 2) boot into safe mode and open the system restore feature and execute a restore point which will reinstate the system files.-- db`...><)))> ."JAM33" wrote in message news:da7d0503-36cc-4919-9b7c-7b5ea5344a37...Where can I find a CD boot disk. I tried safe boot mode but it just downloaded files and stopped there. I tried last known good configuration. It went as far as the WindowsXP screen. I chose debugging mode and got response, windows can't start. File <windowsroot>\system32\ntoskrnl.exe is missing. This is the first ray of light I've had in two days. How do I install/reinstall this file? Thanks.

Here is something I found on the web and pasted here for you. Also skip step 7 below and go to step 8:Missing or corrupt ntoskrnl.exe fileIf the ntoskrnl.exe file is corrupt or missing this can also generate the error. To restore this file follow the below steps.Insert the Microsoft Windows XP CD. Note: If you have a recovery CD or a restore CD and not a Microsoft Windows XP CD it is likely the below steps will not resolve your issue.Reboot the computer, as the computer is starting you should see a message to press any key to boot from the CD. When you see this messagepress any key.In the Microsoft Windows XP setup menu press the R key to enter the recovery console.Select the operating system you wish to fix, and thenenter the administrator password. Type expand d:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_ c:\windows\system32You will then be prompted if you wish to overwrite the filetype Y and press enter to overwrite the file. Type exit to reboot the computer.step 8: at the disk prompt run the following commands: chkdsk /rfixbootbootcfg /rebuild Type exit, remove cd and reboot. step 9: if you get a subsequent error at boot up regarding the boot record, then re-run the recovery console and execute this command at the disk prompt>: fixmbr-- db`...><)))> ."JAM33" wrote in message news:8823c2ef-199c-47b9-8fba-6c5a4f8a7b73...I tried safe boot mode but it just downloaded files and stopped there.
