Remote Desktop Connection from a domain PC to a workgrouped Windows 7 64 bit
Hi, I am having an issues with a Windows 7 client not allowing some inbound remote desktop connection or ping replys. This PC is not joined to my domain but in a workgroup. It's just getting DHCP and DNS from the DC and that is about it. But what is weird is that I cannot connect to it unless it can see it in the Network computer browse list. I have all the right settings done at the firewall and RD. Here are some examples I see.... Domain Server2008 (DC) to Workgroup Windows 7 works just fine (server2008 listed in the Network browse list) Domain Vista client to Workgroup Windows 7 (sometines shows in the Network browse list. Varies, works sometimes) Domain Windows 7 to the target Workgroup Windows7 (nothing will work) So as you can see above I get varied inbound results. The Workgroup PC is not having an issue with name resolution or RD to any computer on the domain. I can outbound ping and Remote Desktop by name or IP that all works. Thanks

Hi, Before going any further, I would like to verify what error message when you remote desktop connection form domain Win 7 to workgroup Win 7? I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot this issue: 1 Login with Clean Boot 2 Temporary disable firewall on Windows 7 3 Turn on network discovery within “Advanced sharing settings” 4 Check if there any proxy used in your network, if is, disable it 5 Make sure the RDC settings is correctly. You can refer to the following link to get more information. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Remote-Desktop-Connection-frequently-asked-questions 6 Use IP address instead of PC name to remote desktop. Hope it helps. Regards, Leo Huang TechNet Subscriber Support in forum.
