Remote Desktop works intermittently
Hello. I recently (August) purchased a HP Pavilion p7-1234 that came with Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit. Ever since I have had this computer, I am only able to remote desktop into my work computer intermittently. In fact, I really have only successfully connected about 3 times since August. I use Cisco VPN Client and an RSA SecurID code prior to attempting to connect to Remote Desktop. Everytime I call my employer's helpdesk, they state that the issue has to be on my end. Note: I had been able to remote desktop into my computer at work for 4 years with my prior PC with absolutely no issues. I had to purchase a new home PC as my prior PC's motherboard died. I run Norton 360 antivirus software. I have disabled the software to attempt the remote desktop; however, this has no bearing on my success rate. What gives? Can anybody offer me any suggestions? I would LOVE to return the computer; however, I am past the 30 day return window. I could understand if I was completely unable to connect, but I have successfully connected a few times, so I am totally lost as to what the problem is.

I think this is an issue that your employer's IT Department will have to resolve, in particular since you use the Cisco VPN Client instead of the one built into Windows. It's what the IT Department is paid for.

It is a little strange that it works intermittently. You may do some tests to narrow down the problem. 1. Please disable Norton 360 antivirus software and windows firewall to check if the problem occurs. 2. When the problem occurs, can you ping the remote machine or access the share folder on the remote machine? 3. If possible, try another machine to access the remote desktop on the same time. We need to make sure that the issue is really just related to this specific client machine.
