Remove sync partnership by Group Policy - offline files
We have a User policy "Administratively assigned offline files" that has been set to the homedirectory of each user. We plan to migrate these home directories from one server to another. In testing i noticed that when i change the policy "Administratively assigned offline files" to another server path, a new Sync partnership is created in the Sync Center of a Windows 7 computer. However, the old Sync Partnership is still there. What is the best way to deploy the removal of this existing Sync Partnership from several hundred Windows 7 workstations?

Hi, Please check if the steps in the following KB article helps: On a Windows Vista-based or Windows 7-based client computer, you can still access offline files even though the file server is removed from the network Please also refer to the following similar thread: Problem with offline folders after changed domain Regards, Sabrina TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Only the second link applies to this question. Basically what it comes down to is that the only proper solution is to format the whole CSC offline files cache. I don't fancy deploying that to hundreds of users. What if someone has created a document and immediately shuts down his/her computer? When he starts his computer again and the format takes place, his/her document will be gone. Any other suggestions that are less risky? Or should i simply keep the existing syncparnership? I did notice that it wasn't syncing any more after some time.

Are there no best practice procedures that will help you to migrate and minimize the risk to 0?

Hi, After researching, I found this is a known issue and I think it will be fixed in the next version. At the current stage, I think we need to delete the old offline file sync partnership one by one or keep them there if there is no other issue encountered. You may also try to use the scripts. In order to get the answer effectively, it is recommended to post a new thread in Scripting Forums for discussion. Regards, Sabrina TechNet Subscriber Support in forum. Sabrina, what do you consider to be a next version, will that be windows 8, or a servicepack or a hotfix for windows 7? We have configured offline files by the "Administratively assigned offline files" policy. This makes it not possibel to delete the partnerships (no delete option available). What script would you recommend to be able to do that?

Hi, I think this can be fixed in the new Windows version instead of the service pack or hotfix. Regarding the scripts, it is still recommended to post a new thread in Scripting Forums for discussion. I will make a post in that forum, however, i do want to make a complaint about this. You are offering an offline files solution that is NOT compatible with DFS, but you then also DON'T offer a decent solution to make it possible to migrate offline files shares to another server AND you seem unwilling to solve this (bug?) within this version of Windows 7.

Here is the post in the scripts forum, maybe someone of the Windows 7 offline files development team can give some advise on this: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/ITCG/thread/dc50bc60-7332-471d-893b-e7972a55ac82
