Removing write-protection in Windows XP
Just purchased an external hard-drive. Trying to transfer Excel files and photos to this device. Get error message stating: "cannot copy. The disk is write-protected. Remove write-protect" I clicked on Properties-Security and I have full control. Any ideas? Thanks...

With your external hard drive turned-on, restart your computer and then try accessing the files.Carey Frisch

Definitely not working…The insidious “write-protection” error will not go away! My workplace IT guy said that an external hard-drive would improve performance??? I am now doubting my purchase... Thanks for the reply Carey!
