The OEM cd needs to come from the vendor from where you purchased the computer, or borrow one from someone who has the very same type of OEM computer.

Hi Abby,Buying a new OS cd is the best thing to do especially if you can't get one from your computer manufacturer. If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Propose as Answer" If you find it helpful , mark it as helpful by clicking on "Vote as Helpful" button at the top of this message. Call your PC vendor , many of them would send your replacement CD just by get some posting charge .Or just go to their repair center.Make sure windows is genuine and have same version as your product key (home basic, professional ,...)

Hi Marshall,I understand that you'd like to know if Microsoft will replace a broken OS CD for a price or for free. You may try calling the Microsoft Store at 1-877-696-7786 to inquire for that. As for my opinion, they may be replacing that with a cost attached to it, provided that it is a Retail Copy of the OS CD/DVD. If you have an OEM copy, most likely, you will be informed to contact your computer manufacturer. If this post helps to resolve your issue, please click the "Propose as Answer" If you find it helpful , mark it as helpful by clicking on "Vote as Helpful" button at the top of this message.
