Reset indexing options to a clean slate
How do I reset indexing topions to the default clean slate? In Vista, we have this: << OPTION FOUR: How To Restore or Reset the Index Default Settings NOTE This will reset all of Indexing settings and search results data back to the default clean state. >> In 7, this option is gone. There's only the rebuild index option, which is not the same thing. Is this another instance of 7 removing a logical and useful function?

Hi Barth2k, please follow following steps to see if the index could be reseted. Option #1: ======= 1. Please click the Windows Pearl (Start button), type "Indexing options" without quotation marks, and press Enter. 2. Click "Modify" button to modify Indexed Locations, for default locations after a clean installation is followings: Offline Files, Start Menu and Users. And you could uncheck the selects. 3. Click Advanced button, in the "Index Settings tab", click "Rebuild" to rest the index. You may also click "Troubleshoot search and indexing" for a troubleshooting wizard. Please let me know if the info helps. Thanks a lot. Cheers, Michael

thanks, but I was looking for a quick button to reset it all back to default. I have 3 drives and 8 partitions with a lot of inclusions and exclusions and it's a pain going through them all. For example, if I previously excluded folder \a\b\x\d\e and changed my mind, I have to go and drill down to it and include it. horrible design.

Another work around for this issue is "Create a new user account" and transfer the files to the new account. Please let me know if it helps. :)
