Restore win7 pro anytime upgrade from w7 hm prm upgrade
My dell xps 1730 w4gig ram cam with vista hm prm. I upgraded to w7 hm prm and then upgraded to w7 pro via any time upgrade on line.
NOW --
I scheduled a chkdsk while in w7 pro, when system boots chkdisk starts but never finishes and system is DEAD.
System restore to w7 pro continues the boot process w/chkdsk and so on.
safe mode does not work -- it just sits there at CLASSNP forever.
I can only boot up from w7 hm prm upgrade installation cd
I cannot run sfc/scannow since it thinks there is a pending recovery
I have tried all the bootsect, bootrec, bcdedit commands refeernced here and elsewhere, but the operations are circular
all my document files are intact,
and I do not want to do a comple install

If CHKDSK seems to freeze, at reboot, just turn off the machine and turn it back on.
If it is still a problem,, then you need to look at chipset drivers. That and possibly a BIOS update.
Vote if answered or helpful, I am running for Office (joke)!

I suspect that this is related to the hard drive controller. From Dell website I find that Dell does not provide Windows 7 compatible drivers. Maybe this model is not compatible with Windows 7.
