Restriction on div width from beta 2 breaks some websites
Restriction on div width from beta 2 breaks some websitesIf Microsoft don't read this, can someone on the inside please forward this urgently to the development team, thanks. In IE8 Beta 1 this wasn't an issue, but now since Beta 2, there seems to have been an arbitrary and seemingly pointless limit placed on the width of divs, which breaks some websites that use a uniquely wide div, that scrolls within a shorter one.E.g. if you go to http://www.superhighstreet.com/Oxford-Street-London/index.shtml in IE7, IE8 b1, or Firefox, you will find you can move the strollbar all the way to the right, and will end up at the shop 'Silverscreen'.In IE8 b2 however, the div is cut short at the shop 'Office'.Compatibility view strangely has no impact here, even though the code of that site is set to action it.If MS are going to impose restrictions, they should remove the restriction at the very least in compatibility view, if not altogether. There are other websites that use similar techniques that are also broken in Beta 2. I can see no way for the websites to recover, other than a complete recode from the bottom up using an entirely different method than divs, at the cost of thousands of dollars. Either that or MS remove the limit on divs, which would cost about $1. Thanks, CJSnet
