Try doing a System Restore to a point in time before you had these problems..."How to start the System Restore tool by using the safe mode option with the Command prompt in Windows XP" < http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304449 >HTH, JW

Thanks for your suggestion regarding system restore. I started system in safe mode w/ command prompt but that's as far it goes. System downloaded files and is in perpetual startup mode. What to do... Thanks.

I don't understand what you mean by "perpetual startup mode". Does it boot and then reboot and reboot ("startup loop")? Did you get a command prompt when you started in safe mode w/ command prompt? Did you enter the command in KB304449? What did it do? I need more details. Thanks, JW

I mean after booting in safe mode w/ command prompt, it downloads files (multi(0)rdisk(0)partition\windows\system32\drivers\...) and there it stays. I never got a command. Thanks for your help.
