Rogue Folder
I have a rogue folder on my desktop. It was an old folder that I had deleted sometime ago. However I have just setup Win Backup and when I run Windows Backup, it says it can't find the file. If I restore the folder from Recycle to desktop, the backup completes successfully. I seem to have full access to the folder and can rename it, delete it, cut and paste but whatever I do Backup gives me the errror that it can't find the file unless I leave it on the desktop with orginal name. ie if I change the name, Backup says it can't find the file with the original name. The folder is empty. Properties show I am the owner with full privledges as well as System and Administrators have full privledges. Any ideas would be appreciated azidct

Hi, you said. " If I restore the folder from Recycle to desktop, the backup completes successfully" Can you use the Shift+Del to delete it permanently instead of sending it to the recycle bin? I went into a cmd prompt and deleted the folder but it didn't help. I also discovered that I can delete the folder and then just create a new folder with the same name then the backup completes sucessfully. Thus the problem must not be with the folder but with something else or some other program that still expects that folder to be there. azidct

What is the name of this folder?

The link posted by pkn didn't help. The name of the folder is try fyi I cluged a workaround in Backup by unclicking Desktop then drilling down in c:\ and I was able to just unclick the try folder and backup runs fine. azidct update I tried using the folder path in search --no help disabled all startup items in msconfig--no help disabled all 3rd party services in msconfig--no help tried disabling as many Microsft services as I could and still keep backup available--no help azidct ------------------------------------------ WOW Well looks like I finally figured it out. I got a hint from the post below that it might be related to media player. I hardly ever use media player but a few months back I was working with it and downloaded some files to desktop\try\. Sometime later I just deleted that folder because I didn't think I needed it. I started snooping around in media player and found a .vob file that was referencing desktop\try\ folder. I tried to delete it in media player but it just kept popping back up. So I had to go through this whole process: I put desktop\try back on my desktop and found the file media player was referencing & put it in the folder I went into media player and deleted the file but this time it asked me if I wanted to delete it from just the library or from the folder also. I deleted it from both I then removed the folder from the desktop I then deleted the backup job and ran backup but still got the same error so I deleted the backup job again, put the folder back on the desktop and ran backup again successfully. I then deleted the folder from the desktop, deleted the backup job again and ran backup again. IT WORKED. somehow the desktop knew something wanted that folder In any event I am on to bigger and better things now. Thanks all for the ideas. http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-system/windows-7-backup-error-0x80070002/1541f68b-a430-41c5-9f87-1b10c9ce35b4 azidct
