Router shows as two different Networks on PC and Laptop
I created a Homegroup on the PC wired to the router and then created a home group on a laptop entering the Password created on the PC but when opening Homegroup after the setup, I cannot see the other computer, from either computer. Both are hardwired to the router. (I also am having a problem with the wireless on the laptop not connecting to the Internet, or if it does it drops the connection frequently.) In the Network and Sharing Center, the Laptop is connected to my router SSID (Sunbeam Haven 2, which is actually in the router is just Sunbeam Haven) and the PC is connected to a network called Network 3. It appears that these are on two different networks so the computers cannot see each other. How do I delete a network name and get them to connect to the same network? I have no idea why there is one called Network 3. I have Uninstalled the Network Adaptor and rebooted and it was reinstalled but still Network 3. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks, Bob

I suggest you to get both of it's IP of the desktop pc as well as laptop, once you done that, go to start>search program and files and try mapping the path by typing the following \\192.168.x.xxx (example) take for instance this is the IP of the laptop you're trying to access so you would do the above on the desktop pc Prior to doing that ensure no third firewall like norton, mcafee are install on either of the pc or laptop, if there is, you would either need to uninstall or configure it As for the router ssid, you could always logged into the router config page and change sunbeam haven 2 to sunbeam haven, remember to hit apply and save before exiting from the router page

Hi Daniel. The SSID of the router is Sunbeam Haven but shows up on the Network and Sharing Center on the laptop as "Sunbeam Haven 2 Home Network" and on the PC as "Network 3 Home Network" . Should the "Home Network" be the same for both computers for them to be seen by the other on Homegroup? Thanks, Bob

Thanks, Bob The ssid is mean for wireless say if both of your pc and laptop are using wireless and trying to connect the net or access each other as in share files or printer, you would need to ensure both pc and laptop have the same ssid as well as passphrase with the router But if both are using wire, then there won't be any issue even if you didn't have the same ssid. As for the network name which you mention it shows Network 3 and stuff, have you try renamiing it or uninstall it under network and sharing center? Don't uninstall from network adapter though. If no go, try the following by right clicking my computer, next under computer name, domain and workgroup>click on change setting, under rename this computer or change it's domain or workgroup, click on the change tab and type the name that you want, next restart your comp And fyi you don't need to have the same network name for both pc and laptop, Say for instance my pc is known as Dan-PC and my laptop is known as Joe-PC, i would still be able to see it and share file and printer stuff, all you need is just ensure that both pc and laptop is under home group if u're using at home and ensure file and sharing is enable
