Running pagefile.sys on a faster drive
My C hdd where Windows XP Professional is installed is slower than my USB drive: I have an 8GB 2.0 USB drive where I can set up the pagefile.sys: this worked very well in Windows 2000 Professional. How to do this in Windows XP since it is a dynamic O/S?1 person needs an answerI do too

Several points to keep in mind:1- USB is not faster than internal drives.2- Windows does not allow for the placement of the pagefile on removable drives.3- The USB stack drivers (which have an 0x3 start value) are initialized well after the Session Manager creates the pagefile. In order to create a pagefile on a USB drive you have to trick Windows into believing that the the USB drive is a fixed drive and you have to change the USB stack drivers to service start-type zero in order to have Ntldr load then so that the kernel can initialize them before the Session Manager creates the pagefile. This is possible, OEMs who sell embedded devices place the USB drive in the Critical Device Database and list it as a fixed device and they change the USB stack service entries to have the drivers load before the Session Manager starts. So, how did you manage to make this happen on Windows 2000? Was this on a regular desktop/laptop or was this on an embedded device or an EEEpc type of computer?John
