I am scanning a NAS device on the network with SCEP and the "items scanned" number is a higher number than the total files + folders in the network drive.  Why would this be?  It does still seem to be running.

When you run scan, it scan files , folders and some dependencies like registry files and also there could hidden files or hidden system files which will be ran during scan. If you unhide system files and folders , you might see some files which you won't see when you just unhide items.
