SSD/Raid Driver for Dell XPS All in Ones in WinPE

I have made some WinPE boot sticks and included the Dell Drivers (I thought) for our XPS2720 All in One workstations but I can not access the ssd drive so I must be missing the right driver.  Has anyone been able to access the ssd drives in their all in ones?

I use the usb stick for accessing the drive and copying files too it without having to load windows.  One application requires that I do this to fix it outside of Windows and works well for all of our workstations that we have that do not use SSD's and have conventional hard drives.

Dell offers an XPS winPE cab pack but that is for the XPS laptops and does not appear to work for the new all in ones.

Does anyone know what driver I need to include in my WinPE usb stick?

Thank you.

Hi Southerner,

Usually the WinPE has included the usual driver to read the hard drives .For your situation ,it seems that  we need specific driver for XPS2720 All in One workstations to use the SSD drive. It is recommended to look for Dell XPS2720 All in One workstations support for help .They are the device manufacturer and they may have more resources to resolve this issue .

I would not be posting in this forum if Dell support had been any help.  I started with them.  They literally had no idea what WinPe was and therefore were no help at all!

It would appear that you are missing the SATA drivers for the hardware. Can you confirm that the disk is not detected by diskpart?

Other bits of info needed: What is the architecture of your WinPE, what version is it, and what is the Hardware ID of the SATA controller?

There are multiple ways to get the Hardware ID:
- install another OS manually to it, and look in Device Manager
- use PCISCan from DOS
- use DevManView from WinPE

Diskpart does not see the hard drive.  It only sees the 8gb usb stick that contains WinPE.

The hard drive in the Dell is identified as SCSI\DISK___ST2000M001-1CHCC72.

The storage controller ID is:  PCI\VEN_8086&DEV_2822&SUBSYS_05B0102&REV_04

WinPE is version 3.1 built on and for 64 bit.

The Dell XPS2720 is running Windows 8.1.

Thank you.

OK here is the driver package to download from Dell:
http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER01681164M/1/2720_Serial-ATA_Driver_CJ2V8_WN_12.8.0.1016_A01.EXE

Extract the .exe using 7zip. In the x64 folder, inject iaStorAC.inf into your WinPE image using DISM.

For your own purposes, you can open the iaStorAC.inf in Notepad and see where the HwID (DEV_2822) is present, meaning this is the correct driver to use.

Hello Tripredacus.

Your suggestion did work for the Dell XPS all in one but now the boot stick does not work for older non ssd computers.  It tells me the computers do not have enough memory but at least this does get me into the All In Ones to fix them.

Thank you.
