Samsung 840 EVO 500GB

ASUS G75VX Notebook

  • I moved HDD into drive bay 2 and put SSD in drive bay 1.
  • Used Samsung Data Migration software tool to clone HDD-to-SSD.
  • So far, disk management window says both drives match (numbers wise).
  • Reboot and enter BIOS, changed boot option 1 to SSD. (disabled boot security)
  • Save & exit... Press Esc key for boot menu, select the one other than drive C:
  • Enter

I get to Windows semi-normally.

I'm able to move the mouse around click into things, but... The screen flashes every 10-20 seconds. Very annoying to say the least!

Explorer says SSD is drive OS (H:)... Also says HDD is OS (C:)

MSCONFIG says boot drive D:

Wait?! What?!

I decide to reboot because the flash/blink of the screen is annoying.

I get back to Windows and the blinking quits (Yay!).

I go check MSCONFIG, THIS TIME... boot drive C:

WTF!

ASUS Tech Support isn't very supportive.  Republic of Gamers forums never experienced this before.  Samsung don't know sqwat.

Obi Wan Kinobi (Kenobi?), you're my last hope!

When you clone a Windows OS the sequence of operations is:

1. Clone the system disk.

2. Shut down the system immediately after cloning.

3. Remove the source disk.

4. Boot from the cloned disk.

5. You can then reattach the source disk - only after booting from the cloned disk.
