Search/Gatherer 3036 event (HRESULT 0x8004005): ONENOTE14
Hi, I am experiencing the following warning event in the Windows 7 x64 Application log several times per day. Source: Microsoft-Windows-Search Event ID: 3036 Task Category: Gatherer Level: Warning Keywords: Classic User: N/A Description: The content source <ONEINDEX14://{S-1-5-21-4018826578-3196808780-3088313005-1001}/> cannot be accessed. Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog Details: (HRESULT : 0x80004005) (0x80004005) The computer is not assigned in a domain. Based on my research in the registry, the {S-1-5-21-4018826578-3196808780-3088313005-1001} is an id of the currently logged in user. The URI is referenced in HKLM\SW\MS\Windows Search\Gather\Windows\SystemIndex\Sites\{S-1-5-21-4018826578-3196808780-3088313005-1001}\Paths\2\Path= and is handled by Search.OneIndexHandler.2 object. What do you suggest to eliminate this warning? Thank you.

Do you redirect profile folders to a network location? This error usually occurs when the offline folders synchronization is in process. If there is no any error appears in UI, you can ignore this error. Hi Arthur, I appologize for my delay caused by holidays and investigating hardware issues. The profile folders are local, some of them are just symlinked to another harddrive (mklink /d). There are no offline items on the computer. I have unchecked all OneNote items in the Indexing Options panel and thank checked back indexing of OneNote of the current logged user. I have immediatelly noticed two new errors in the event log: The content source <oneindex14://{S-1-5-21-4018826578-3196808780-3088313005-1001}/> cannot be accessed. Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog Details: No protocol handler is available. Install a protocol handler that can process this URL type. (HRESULT : 0x80040d37) (0x80040d37) The content source <oneindex14://{S-1-5-21-4018826578-3196808780-3088313005-1001}/> cannot be accessed. Context: Application, SystemIndex Catalog Details: (HRESULT : 0x80004005) (0x80004005) I have followed the Search.OneIndexHandler.2 handler in the CLSID ({C7DFFDF1-BD1F-450A-B98D-96B6D30BA4C1}) and found that it should be implemented in C:\PROGRA~1\MICROS~2\Office14\ONFILTER.DLL. The file path points to an existing file (version 14.0.4763.1000). The PROGRA~1 points to the "Program Files" (x64) folder. I have also tried to repar Office 2010 x86 installation but does not help. The behaviour is the same after checking to include One Note in indexing at any time. Martin

Have you tried to remove OneNote, or remove Office entirely and then reinstall? It should resolve the issue. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi Arthur, thank you for your suggestion. Unfortunatelly, removing Office and installing it again did not resolve the issue. The events I received after the reinstall are the same as before.

This issue occurs if the OneNote files and its cache files in your user profile is corrupt. By default they are saved in: C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\OneNote C:\Users\%username%\Documents\OneNote Notebooks One of the files may be corrupt. I suggest you remove the cache files *.onecache. Then move the *.one files out of there one by one and check the result after each moving. By doing so you may be able to find the root cause. For more information regarding contents of OneNote, please discuss in our Office forum. Microsoft Office for IT Professionals Category

Hi Arthur, I've started b removing *.onecache file and OneNoteOfflineCache_Files folder, then by Backup folder in AppData, following by one by one *.one files in Documents and by *.one2toc file; and finally, I have removed also the root OneNote and OneNote Notebooks root directories, so neither of the two folders you provided was left present. In all cases, the same pair of errors appeared in the event log ("No protocol handler is available." and "0x80004005"). Martin

Hi all, I met the same problem as MCCZ. It happened when I manually initiated a windows search index rebuild. Before that, the Onenote notebooks are indexed properly. I tried deleting all the notebooks and notebook cache and exclude/include Onenote into/outof windows search index location, but the pair of errors still got populated and the notebooks cannot get indexed. Thanks, neverhoodboy

Hi, Sorry for delay. Does it occur in new user profiles? I suggest you create a thread in our Office forum and ask how to clear all caches and stores of OneNote. You can meantime try to delete the Registry branch {S-1-5-21-4018826578-3196808780-3088313005-1001}. After clearing, please let us know if the issue still occurs. You may also temproary disable antivirus and check the result. Hi Arthur, I have second error with mapi protocol on another user account on that computer. So, I experience error on MAPI protocol for User2 and ONENOTE14 protocol for User1. For both protocols I see the same pair of errors. Indexing the same protocol on the another user does not generate any error. So for one user, it works, for the other, it doesn't. What do you mean deleting the registry brach of user SID? I could not delete any of the two users whose SID appears in the errors. Disabling antivirus (MSSE) does not help.

Hi, Sorry for delay. The branches we mentioned are under HKLM\SW\MS\Windows Search\Gather\Windows\SystemIndex\Sites\ There should be several branches that are named by your SID. Each branch is for the cache of the user. You may delete the branches which have problems, then rebuild Search Index. Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
