SearchProtocolHost.exe is reading every file on HDD
I have a Windows 7/64. When I saw the HDD light blinking at high speed while I was not doing anything on the computer. I check the Resource Monitor and this file has hundres of entries reading entire folders on my HDD. What's going on? I thought it was a virus or somthing but it looks that is a Microsoft file. What is doing. How to stop it? Should I stop it?

SearchProtocolHost.exe is one of the parts of the Windows Search service, which is constantly indexing files for faster searches. It is designed to do this when the comp is idle for a few minutes. favorite threads | Computer tips

Thanks for your answer, JoelbX,
So I should live it alone or can I customize the activity?

You can somewhat customize it by going to Control Panel->Indexing options, or Control Panel->folder options->search tab. You could also disable the service from running too... favorite threads | Computer tips
