Search without indexing in a Windows 7 Library?
Hello,
I would like to ask a question about Library in Windows 7.
I have
disabled Windows Search / Indexing Options and have found that search cannot be performed for a library. Within a ordinary folder, when I am searching something such like “pdf”, Windows Explorer will prompt me that “Your search
might be slow because the index is not running. Click to turn on the index..”, but for Library there is no such bar message and it simply doesn’t search anything.
Is this a limitation of Library? Is there any way to enable search within a library?

The whole idea is for Windows Search to index the content and the solution is to enable Windows Search. You can however enable search in non-indexed libraries, look at

Dear Andres,
I installed the hotfix and modified registry entry per its instructions, but search still does not work for library locations.
The Windows Search service is disabled because I don't want it to index contents on the computer.
Is there any further action that I can take?

As the Libraries are just an umbrella for multiple folders scattered across the local disks and network I would guess that the search does not work by if you disable Windows Search, and that this is by design. Again, the intended use is to let Windows
Search index the content of any folder included in the Libraries.Blogging about Windows for IT pros at
