Secedit.exe.mui

I'd like to change my REQUIRED password length (grrr) with secedit.exe. In reality, all I can find is secedit.exe.mui and Win 8.1 does not recognize it as an executable. How do I execute this file under 8.1? It has nothing to do with Explorer in clicking the displayed file name.

Hello Renee,

Which edition of Windows 8.1 are you running?  I see it on my installation of Windows 8.1 Enterprise.

You should be able to change the password length using:

Net Accounts /minpwlen:length

as an alternative

I also see the file in my Win 8 Pro.

Run this DISM command to repair missing and corrupted Windows files:

DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

Hello,

The question is really why isn't it in your system32 folder?  It is in mine

So Andre suggestion to check for run DISM to check for missing or corrupted files would be the right solution.

It doesn't just check for corrupted it also checks for missing files and attempts to replace them

Are you sure about it checking for an undefined group of files?

Hello Renee,

The check uses the manifests to determine what should be installed and attempts to replace missing files or corrupted files

So they are defined by the presence of manifests....

yes, a MUI is only a file which contains translated strings. Your question leads us to the conclusion that the exe was missing.
