Can I have the Defender on with my Security Essential on Have them both on at the same time? both running all the time Thanks

No, you can't. Microsoft Security Essentials turns Defender off.
That's good, not bad, since Microsoft Security Essentials does the
same things that Defender does. You don't want to have both running,
since doing so would adversely impact your performance, and create
some risk of conflicts between them causing you problems.
