Security Center Will Not Start
Here's a different twist on what others have seen. After I installed Service Pak 1 I can no longer get the service for Secuirty Center to work.I can how ever access everything tied too it... FireWall, Windows Defender, Restore Point. The only piece that won't start is the Secuirty Center. The main reason I want that too boot is that I have that annoying X shield down in the system tray with no way to close it.Can someone give me some help on this. Thanks!

Hi, Did you verify the Security Center service? 1. Click Start, type Services.msc in Start Search bar, and then press Enter. 2. In the right pane, double-click Security Center. 3. In the Startup type list, click Automatic, click Apply, click Start, and then click OK. 4. Restart the computer. If you encounter an error when trying to verify Security Center service, please let me know details.

The Security Center Service is active and set to Automatic, that's the thing that doesn't make sense. It says it's running. I've got the X in the lower screen notifying that there's an alert, which was when I turned off the UAC.I can't get Security Center too start, period. There's no screen, No error message. There's just nothing.

Hi, As the Security Center Service is active and set to Automatic, this issue can be caused by a system components issue. 1. Please confirm if you have a file named wscui.cpl in Windows\system32 folder. If it exists, double click it. If the file is missing, please copy it from another known computer. 2. Did you scan virus and malware on the computer? They could damage system components.

I've got the file WSCUI.CPL. Everything else associated with Security Center starts and is working as well as my McAfee Virus protection (tested that as well), I ran a full scan for malware, trojans, and viruses using McAfee and using the online service HouseCall from Trend Micro. Nothing was found. I'll have to find someone else that has Vista to get the file from then since I don't know anyone in immediate contact. It's just odd that everything works, windows firewall, windows defender, ect and even the little X box in the corner pops up, but ican't get the wscui.cpl file to launch. I'll double click it, you see the spiral showing something is loading, but the center never loads.

Hi, Lets continue to focus on the other system components: dependencies services and security software. 1. Please check whether the following services have been started: Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Windows Management Instrumentation 2. Based on the recently information, some software will cause the incompatibility issue with Vista SP1 (Service Pack 1). In order for narrow down this issue, you can test the issue in Clean Boot and Safe Mode. Clean Boot ======== 1. Click Start, type "MSCONFIG" (without the quotations) in the Search Bar and Press "Enter" to start the System Configuration Utility. 2. Click the "Services" tab, check the "Hide All Microsoft Services" box and click "Disable All" (if it is not gray). 3. Click the "Startup" tab, click "Disable All" and click "OK". 4. Restart the computer and test the issue. Note: Clean Boot is a troubleshooting step. If some programs have been disabled, we can re-enable them later. If you see the System Configuration Utility, check the box of "Don't show this message" and then click "OK". Please test this issue in the Clean Boot environment. Safe Mode ======== 1. Restart the computer. 2. Keep pressing the F8 key until the Windows Startup menu appears. 3. Choose Safe Mode, and press Enter. Then, test this issue in Safe Mode.

Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Windows Management Instrumentation Both are started and set to automatic A Clean Boot was done. I still can't get Security Center to open I then did a boot to Safe Mode I still cant get Security Center to open What do I try next? It's getting really irritating that Security Center won't open even though I can access the Firewall and Windows Defender. I'd like to be able to turn the alerts off since that X shield won't leave the lower right of the task bar.
