Being networked should not matter. You should be able to plug thedrive into either computer.Does that not work? If not, please tell us exactly what happens whenyou try, and be sure to provide the exact verbatim text of any errormessages you receive. What do I need to do/buy to be able to access my external hard drive on both of my home computers. I am already networked. Thanks Plug in the external hd on one of the comp (let call it comp A) and power on both the hd and pc, next go to computer>system properties and look for the drive, once you saw it, right click and choose shared with>advanced sharing>click on advanced sharing tab>follow by check the share this folder box and hit apply and ok. Next go to another comp (comp B) and map it using the IP or name of comp A, if successful, you should be able to see the share external hd. Lastly if there's third partly firewall you would need to configure or uninstall it or else you might face some issue sharing the external hd
